Caring For Your Microfiber Towels

In the Fall issue of Northeast Carwasher, our very own Valerie Sweeney wrote an article explaining how to best wash your Microfiber Towels to ensure longevity and limit replacement. Read below for her top 5 tips.

1. Wash Frequency:
It's best to wash microfiber after each use. Otherwise, you risk contaminants setting into the towel. If this happens, it can clog the fine fibers and hamper future cleaning tasks.

2. Keep Them Seperated:
Only wash microfiber with other microfiber, as cotton releases lint that will become trapped within the fibers. Wash your dirtiest microfiber towels in separate loads to decrease the risk of cross-contamination. To simplify the wash process, use a color-coded towel system as some tasks are dirtier than others.

3. Detergent:
For heavily soiled cloths, use more solvent. Never use bleach, alkaline, or fabric softener when washing microfiber. Bleach will decrease the effectiveness and shorten the lifespan of the microfiber.

4. Capacity & Temperature:
Wash in cool or warm water and keep wash/dry load capacities at 85-90 percent capacity.

5. Drying:
Heat can easily damage microfiber towels. As a result, air drying microfiber is always best. However, if you must machine dry your towels, set the max temperature to 140 degrees Fahrenheit and remove them immediately following the dry cycle.
